I'm 27 and I've noticed I do this thing where I rank myself against people I barely think about otherwise like old coworkers, a cousin's friend I met twice, a girl from my dorm freshman year. It's not really about liking or disliking them, it's more like I keep a running scoreboard in my head and I'm always coming up short somehow, even in categories where objectively I'm doing fine. I got a promotion this year and instead of feeling proud I just thought about someone from college who got promoted "faster" I don't even talk to most of these people anymore. I've started avoiding certain apps because seeing updates about them ruins my whole fucking day but even when I avoid them I still think about where they probably are in life and measure myself against my guess. I know logically this makes no sense but i cant make it stop

You got a promotion this year and still felt behind, because some invisible scoreboard keeps overriding the actual wins.

i turned 30 this year and I thought I'd feel more like an adult by now. instead I feel like I'm still figuring out the basics money, what I actually want, who my real friends are, who i want to be with. some days it feels fine and some days it feels like everyone else is so much ahead of me in every possible way, has anyone else felt this way?

You hit 30 expecting a switch to flip and it hasn't, so now you're measuring your whole life against everyone else's apparent progress.

why do i feel depressed as i've not made it like other people in my life

You're carrying a quiet but heavy sense of falling behind, like the life you imagined for yourself is slipping further away while others seem to be moving forward.

scrolled for an hour and now everything feels pointless. why does everyone else seem fine

After scrolling, other people's lives look fine and yours suddenly feels empty.

i keep putting off the one thing that would actually help because I'm scared of doing it wrong

You're stuck delaying something useful because getting it wrong feels too risky.
